# Video motion

{% hint style="info" %}
Video Motion is a **Pro feature**.
{% endhint %}

## What is Video Motion?

Video Motion (video-to-motion) extracts the movement from a reference video and applies it to your humanoid character. Instead of picking a preset or typing a prompt, you drive the animation with real footage, so the result matches the exact motion in your clip.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Like all animation, this only works on **humanoid** characters. See the [Character Rigging Guide](/documentation/3d-tools/animate/character-rigging-guide.md) for what makes a model animatable.
{% endhint %}

## How it works

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

## Open your character in Animate

Open a model, then switch to **Animate**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

## Upload a reference video

In **Video Animations**, upload a clip of the motion you want. Supported formats: **MP4**, **MOV**, and **AVI**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

## Sloyd extracts and applies the motion

Sloyd analyzes the video to extract the motion, rigs your character if needed, and applies the movement. This runs in two stages: extracting the motion from the video, then applying it to your character.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

## Preview and export

Play the result to preview it, then export a baked clip (FBX, GLTF / GLB).
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Tips for the best results

* Use a video with a **single person** clearly in frame, head to toe.
* Steady footage with the whole body visible gives the cleanest motion.
* Make sure your character is a **humanoid** so the motion maps correctly.

{% hint style="info" %}
Extracting motion from video takes longer than premade or prompt animations. Hang tight while it processes.
